 Nexus Player

Google has confirmed that the Nexus Player, first set -top box company, will be discontinued. The measure was already being speculated after the product disappeared from Google Store and several dealers catalog, such as Best Buy. In April, some consumers were able to purchase the device through the Google store, but the shortage returned the next month.

Launched in late 2014, the Nexus Player is the first device to run the Android TV system which will follow the market and will continue to be part of brands like Sony and Sharp TVs. However, some believe that the Android TV will have a promising future, since the end of production of the Nexus Player may have been a response to little interest developers and the public by the platform.

According to a Google spokesperson, “Nexus Player is still available in some stores” for those who still are interested in purchasing the product. The gadget was manufactured by Asus and helped the Mountain View company to be present in the rooms of consumers. After the Nexus Player, the company bet on Google TV and Chromecast, the latter showing great results in sales.

Google did not say how long the Nexus Player will receive support and updates. Despite the pessimism about the platform, other manufacturers have bet on similar products, such as Xiaomi, which recently presented its Mi Box; and NVIDIA , which has a product with hardware much more powerful and present the the places far above the competition
