Facing a lower than expected for the Nexus 7 business performance Google may be about to replace the unit for an upgraded model known as Nexus 8. According to DigiTimes, the transition can occur already at the end of April this year and 2 million units are being prepared to hit stores on the launch date of the product.
The site claims that the reason for the transition is the decline in sales of the 2013 model of the Nexus 7 and the pressure exerted by that smartphones have increasingly larger displays. The current device sold about 3 million units to date, a number far below the expectations of their manufacturer.
Since the product went on sale, several factors contributed to it seem less appealing to the consumer. Among them is a growing number of compact tablets available in the market and the rise of phablets like the Galaxy Note 3, which decreased the need that some consumers felt about buying a dedicated product.
