In the last week, Google reported that it would release the preview version of Android 7.1 Nougat in the next few weeks. The company did not reveal a date certain, where we just reported that the news would come before the end of the month. Now, the search giant begins to release the update for the smartphone Nexus 5 and 6P, as well as the Pixel C.
The update is geared for developers, which will bring few new features to the common user. But if you have an interest in knowing what has changed in the first preview of Android 7.1 Nougat, here are the news released by Google in its official blog:
- Shortcuts for apps – With the Android 7.1 it is possible to create up to five shortcuts for apps on the home screen of the system. The user needs to tap and hold on an icon, and a floating menu will display a list of options with actions to be performed.
- Support for circular icons – Now the apps on your Android 7.1 may have the same appearance of those of the new launcher of Google in the smartphones Pixel, expanding the support for apps from third parties.
- Metadata wallpapers extended – Allows you to provide metadata about their wallpapers to any picker displaying the wallpaper as a preview. You can show existing metadata, such as label, description and author, as well as a new context in the URL and title to connect to more information.
- Support for images for keyboard – Users are able to express themselves more fun with the sharing of images directly to Android keyboard. The devs should release this feature in their apps to allow users to access stickers, gifs and much more faster.
- Shortcut to storage manager – Apps need to facilitate the access to the memory consumption on Android devices. In this way, users can clean up unnecessary data and free up internal space for the simplest form when necessary.

The final version of Android 7.1 will be released in December for the devices mentioned above and also for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
