For a long time we saw some Nexus smartphone line be released with microSD card slot. Unfortunately this is a reality that has been shared by other companies like Samsung that just removing support for memory cards in their latest high-end. Google has always maintained that microSD is not something reliable, that the card can fail and lose all your data, or someone may have access to your smartphone and steal the card with all important information on it.
But such arguments do not convince some users, as Reddit forum Sockpockets who held a real kludge to get a microSD slot for your Nexus 5. All it took was a soldier in the lowest cheap adapter daughter card (which apparently had to be bent to fit properly) some quick reorganization of mount antenna cables and speaker …. and voila! He is a proud new owner of a Nexus 5 with microSD card reader. The downside? The back cover not then fit one TPU case had to be used instead to keep everything inside.
The interesting part is that the operating system recognized the microSD card without any amendments or special modifications. The Android Marshmallow has advanced support for memory cards allowing it to be used as storage. Thus, Sockpockets managed to considerably expand the internal memory by boosting the number of applications, media, and all that can fit into your Nexus 5.
Unfortunately, the procedure should not be something simple that anyone will be able to follow. So, if you has a Nexus 5 it is best not to leave dismantling your smartphone or you may end up getting no cell when disconnecting or damaging any vital component to the appliance.
